Staring at the Sun

As has been brought to my attention, I am way, way behind on updates here.  We took a trip last Sunday to Railay Beach.  It was about a half hour by longtail boat, and the view on the way there was spectacular.  The boat itself….well that was a little scary.  Small, rickety, wooden thing....way too many people than felt safe.  Yeah, that was an adventure and a half in itself.

Again, not junked boats, but rather real working ones that just look like junk.
View from the boat

I should issue a disclaimer here:  We didn’t acutally know where we were going.  We saw online that Phra Nang Beach was relatively close and looked really pretty so we asked the travel agent across the street if she could help us get there.  Even after the visit, I’m still not quite sure where were were, but all the signs said Railay so I imagine we were there.

When we got there though, we did see a sign for Phra Nang Cave so Phra Nang may have just been the cave.  Or the beach by the cave.  I really couldn’t say.  We walked to the other side of the peninsula since the area where we landed was small and kinda ugly, and full of boat exhaust, and that was where we beached it up.

Longtail boats that brought us to the beach.

Also, there was a hot German guy on our boat who we stared at for the entirety of the 35 minute boat ride (thank you dark sunglasses!), and I of course played the creeper who was snapping lots of photos so of course it will at some point be pointed towards you, sir, at the front of the boat.  But we all know my real aim was to enlarge and crop:
You're welcome, America.
Because we were in a bay (Inlet?  River? Pond? …who the heck knows?) -- I could look at a map, but I'm far too lazy for that.

Anyhow, the water was very calm which made for some lovely floating.  We paddled out into the water, and after taking the obligatory photos, floated on our backs forever.  Thinking and musing and wondering and pinching ourselves that we were on the beach on the other side of the world….

….actually, if we’re going to play that game, YOU ALL are the ones on the other side of the world.

It’s very much a chicken-and-egg scenario.

Sidenote:  I came to a country with an endless supply of beaches with ONE swim suit.  One.  This is because as I was packing, Jane was standing over my shoulder grabbing swim suits and saying, "This is old and faded." [tosses it in the trash].  "This is old and faded." [tosses it in the trash].  "This is perfectly fine, but I really enjoy the rush I get from tossing things in the trash." [tosses it in the trash].  She also said, "I'm sure you'll find some great ones there; you won't need these!"

I have found a few skirts, some cute dresses, Jif Peanut butter believe it or not, a bath towel that does not absorb water (aka: its job), but not a single bikini I like.

We're going to the beach again this weekend and I better find a swim suit or my one and only will go on strike, and we all know swim suits do not cross picket lines.

Also, we saw this on the way home:

Yes, that's a cow.  On a boat.

Welcome to Thailand.
